Are you familiar with common types of oral accidents and injuries that can severely impair your smile? Although you can often apply various treatments to help protect your smile and clean it through the use of oral appliances and safety equipment, the truth is that most accidents can occur at any time and can often take you off guard. If an accident should happen, do not panic and make any rash decisions. By preparing in advance, you can have good ideas in mind of what you need to do should an oral accident occur.

Oral emergencies can arise if you have an object stuck between your teeth. Oftentimes, the damage comes when trying to remove the object, so be careful when trying to dislodge any potential substances that may be stuck between your teeth. Never use any kind of pin or sharp object to try to dislodge it, as you can end up lacerating your gums or damaging your tooth enamel. Instead, use an interdental cleaning tool to try to gently dislodge the object.

If you ever have any teeth that are knocked out of your mouth, it can expose you to several oral health risks. Beyond putting gauze on the area to make sure that excessive bleeding does not continue, also make sure that you collect the tooth and soak it in a tooth-saving solution for possible reinsertion later. If you visit your dentist within one hour, they may be able to successfully reattach the tooth.

If you have any teeth that are damaged due to chips or cracks, make sure that you rinse out the area around the damaged tooth so that infection cannot occur. Apply gauze to the area and hold it in place so that bleeding stops.
